Description
Our long-term flatmate Neil will sadly be leaving us and the rental market behind in October, having bought his first flat. Myself and Lorraine, the remaining flatmates, are both keen to stay and hope to find someone friendly to join us. The ideal move-in date would be from the 1st of November, but this could be pushed back if necessary.
The available room is the master bedroom, a cavernous double room with towering ceilings, a mini mezzanine at the entrance, its own ensuite bathroom with bath, shower head, basin and toilet. It comes furnished with a double bed, mattress, large built in wardrobe and chest of drawers, and optional bookshelf and cabinet. The tall sash windows overlooking the front courtyard make it bright and airy.
The flat itself is part of an old converted boarding school and is unbelievably spacious for London with high ceilings, an ornate entrance hall and even a little turret. Part of a gated community with entry phone and secure bike and car parking, it also has a shared roof terrace with views over the city - great for summer parties.
We have a large, open-plan kitchen and living room, including a big flatscreen TV, a projector for movie nights, and arguably best of all, a dishwasher. There is also a utility cupboard with a combined washer-dryer, a digital piano in the hallway and an attic space for storage.
The bills are around £110 per month, with the heating amount fluctuating depending on the time of year. The other cost will be a security deposit of £833.33. And we are in council tax band D, which apparently is a legal requirement to include (I never knew this before).
I have lived in the flat for about 8 years now, and Lorraine for 1 year, and the area is great; Shadwell itself is fairly quiet with decent amenities and excellent transport links, but we're also a stones throw from Whitechapel and Wapping on either side (the latter having some beautiful old riverside pubs) and an easy walk to Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Tower Bridge and Limehouse.
The DLR is just 5 minutes away, taking you to Bank or Canary Wharf, while the Overground station directly over the road from there goes up through Whitechapel (for the Lizzie Line) and Shoreditch to Dalston and Highbury, or south of the river via Canada Water.
As for us: I'm a sociable, film, music, and exercise-loving web developer working at a start-up in Old Street. Lorraine works in product support for a multinational TV and technology company, is super friendly and enjoys/loathes challenging spin classes, restaurant trips, nights out and catching up on the latest TV shows. We are an LGBTQ+ mixed share (I'm gay, Lorraine is straight), so we're particularly welcoming of all identities and sexualities.
We're hoping for a similarly minded flat mate to join a nice, sociable flat where we are equally happy hanging out together - watching films and tv shows, going for drinks, exhibitions and events - as we are doing our own thing.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
Thanks for reading,
Josh
