Description
looking for tWO new housemates for a house in stepney/whitechapel - see below for details !
*the practical details:
- house in whitechapel/stepney, just off mile end road
- furnished four bed terraced house, in a cul de sac behind a gate with keycode entry
- there are two rooms going - one on the first floor (£850 per month) and one attic room (£800 per month)
- there is a living room, kitchen and also a garden
- there are two bathrooms, one of which has an over bath shower
- all four bedrooms are double rooms
- deposit is £980 for both of the rooms
- atm bills (electric, water, wifi, council tax which is Band E) come to £123.25 a month
- move in date start of january 2026
- initially it would be for a 9 month period taking on the remainder of a 2 year fixed term tenancy, as our original tenancy agreement ends 3rd october 2026 - though there may be the possibility to extend and stay on if people were keen
- is let by a private landlord and managed by an agency (keaton’s), who have been very responsive so far when we've had issues with the house, and fairly swift with repairs etc
- the letting agent will carry out reference checks, so you will need to prove income and provide a guarantor
- super well connected: just over 5 minutes walk to whitechapel station (elizabeth line, windrush line, district line, hammersmith and city line), 10 minutes walk to bethnal green tube station (central line) or bethnal green overground station (weaver line)
- there is a sainsburys superstore less than 10 minutes walk away, and a tesco express literally like 1 minute walk away
- super easy to get into central london as well as to other spots in east london like shoreditch/hackney/dalston/etc
*about griffin:
- i’m 28
- trans nonbinary dyke
- i use they/them pronouns
- i work full time as a doctor
- i also work as a drag/cabaret performer
- in my spare time i like going to drag shows and theatre shows, doing dance and aerial classes, reading in coffee shops
- i’m vegan (and have been for the past nine years)
- i’m originally from new zealand, but have lived in the UK for the past 15 years
*about derek:
- Heya! I'm Derek, I'm 24 and use they/them pronouns.
- I work in theatre as a technician/problem-solving gremlin - I have quite variable working hours and even more variable amounts of time off, but when I'm not running around madly at work I like to go climbing, find a nice bar to read at, or go out to queer goth/techno nights 🖤🖤
- I like a sociable house and appreciate being able to chat with my housemates as and when our schedules align.
- I made friends with Griffin years ago through the cabaret world (and stuck to them the way glitter does on basically anything✨) and am ALWAYS up for seeing a drag show as a house
- I'm jewish(-ish) and celebrate festivals at home, and sometimes host friday night dinners with queer jewish friends. (because it has to be said: my faith+ethnicity exists in perfect harmony with my anti-zionist politics and the joy i take in my heritage in the diaspora)
- My strengths as a housemate: I own the most screwdrivers of anyone in the house (uncontested), genuinely enjoy doing the washing-up, am happy to organise pub trips and cosy film nights, and like to fill the house with candles and trinkets.
- Talk to me about anything you're excited about and we'll probably get on great!
*about you:
- leftist, LGBT+, anti zionist, climate conscious
- probably mid to late twenties or older, though this is not a hard limit (ie if you’re 22 but think you’re otherwise a perfect fit you’re still very welcome to get in touch)
- ideally vegetarian or vegan, but at a minimum willing to be in a meat free household
- clean and tidy (especially in communal areas), kind, considerate of others
- self reflective and an honest, upfront and mature communicator
- don’t smoke indoors
- bonus points if you’re into drag/circus/pole/theatre/cabaret
*the house vibes:
- chilled and friendly environment
- everyone is busy - we often work long hours on different schedules, and have our own hobbies and social lives as well as need for alone time - but we are also keen to spend intentional social time as a house (eg going to drag shows/going for a drink/having a coffee in the living room every once in a while) in addition to chance encounters in communal spaces
- we have friends round to hang out, and very occasionally throw small parties, but on the whole are not a huge party house though we do like going out to club nights/parties/shows
*accessibility info:
- there is a step to get through the gate into the cul de sac, a step up to the front door, and then two flights of stairs in the house (two bedrooms on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor)
- not a scent free household
- no intercom system
- two bathrooms - the ground floor bathroom has a toilet and a sink, the first floor bathroom has a toilet, sink, and a shower over a bath
- any specific access questions pls feel free to ask <3
