Description

THE HOUSE:
We are Ivy (27, she/her) and Laura (30 she/they), working in the public and charity sectors respectively. We’ve lived here together since September 2024, with a room becoming available to take over from our lovely housemate who is leaving after 4.5 years. The house is really a home and we are keen to continue to co-create and maintain a lovely shared living space with our new housemates.

We both like to craft and cook - Ivy can often be found at London Fields lido, and likes the occasional board game, and Laura loves crafting and going to Arsenal Women's games. We have a beautiful front & back garden which a departing housemate has worked very hard to cultivate, so anyone keen on gardening would be very welcome! We like to keep the common spaces as clean and tidy as possible so we can all enjoy for shared use - with the emphasis on the place being a convivial shared home. We each cook a meal for the house once per week - so you're sorted for dinner three nights per week. No need to be in for a communal meal four times per week - we often save portions for each other's lunches etc., though we enjoy eating together when we happen to be in.

We're fairly climate conscious and try to reduce plastic in our household items where possible (refilling oil bottles etc), do food waste & recycle, and we don't really cook meat or fish in the house - though we're not round the clock veggie/vegan ourselves and this isn’t a firm rule! We work on a cleaning rota for communal areas, along with a tally system for smaller jobs like emptying the bins which works really well for all being accountable for these jobs. We also have a dishwasher, which definitely helps!

We enjoy hanging out with each other over shared meals, a board game, the odd movie night, or just chilling on the sofa with a book, but also enjoy our own space and both need downtime after work etc.

We both have busy social calendars, but are not a party household (and generally speaking it’s worth noting that there are small children living in the houses on either side of us, so loud noise late at night is pretty much out). We have been known to throw the odd party with sufficient notice, and we have dinner parties, brunch and summer BBQs when the mood takes us (with due consideration for each other's space and schedules). We hope you'll feel welcome to have friends over and enjoy the house as your home along with us.

It's been known for partners, serious or otherwise, to spend the night periodically. Ivy has a boyfriend who stays a few times per week, and Laura has a girlfriend who stays occasionally (and is also poly so you may see other partners visiting). Generally speaking, we try to balance the time so that partners feel welcome to come and go without unofficially moving in! In a similar vein, sometimes friends/family visit and stay over on the sofa/in our rooms. It is really important our house is queer friendly, including trans & non-binary people, anti-racist and generally committed to treating people with respect and kindness.

We operate a very safe space policy around mental health/accessibility and are mindful of each other's differences, as well as good and bad days, with the aim of fostering an understanding and supportive environment. We hope you’ll enjoy and contribute to this atmosphere too. We appreciate you reading this long description and hope it’s clear how important it is for us to continue our great home vibes. Please message us with some info about yourself and use the word ‘watermelon’ in your message so that we know you’ve read this.
