Description

I am looking for a new flatmate on my 2 bedroom/1 bath house boat permanently moored in the Surrey Dock Marina. The open room is a very large, spacious room. Arcadia is a large light-filled boat with floor to ceiling windows in the bedrooms and the living room. The boat has a gorgeous open plan for the main space- living room, dining area and large kitchen - and has 2 balconies overlooking the water on either end of the boat. The flat is a beautiful blend of a flat with full amenities and getting to live in a boat on the water. The room is available for rent Sept 1 with some flexibility to discuss a move in timeline that works best for everyone. Viewings will be Monday and Tuesday- August 18th, 19th with a tentative date later in the week as well. My current flatmate is moving out due to job reasons and I am excited to find someone new to take over her amazing room!

Your Bedroom and the Living Space:
The room is the largest room in the flat and comes partly furnished with a king bed, 2 nightstands, chest of drawers, a small 1-seater couch and desk. It opens up onto a large balcony that functions as a more private space while the other balcony opens up to the water and Marina. The wardrobe is built in and spacious. There is space for you to bring your furniture for the bedroom as well, given how large it is, to make it your own. There is underbed storage and storage in the wardrobe. Sound does travel to a degree on the boat so if you are a very sensitive to light/noise while sleeping or working, it's something to be mindful about- but I have not had issues!

The rest of the flat comes furnished with 2 sofas, tv/table, and dining table from the landlord and there is room to figure out what of your furniture can be added. The kitchen has two stoves- a gas stove top and an ESSE diesel stove that we use in the winter for heating and cooking. The boat has two heating systems (the ESSE and electrical) and stays warm in the winter especially on sunny days, has an onboard washer/dryer unit and the shared bathroom has a bathtub and shower. There is a private gate to our boat with secure areas for storing bikes and free parking available around the marina.

Boat life and Area:
The permanently moored houseboat is a perfect blend experiencing boat life and the amenities of a fully equipped flat with running water and electrical hook ups, and septic tank pump outs facilitated by the Marina. Living on a boat does mean that it requires a bit of additional attentiveness and has some differences to living an apartment complex, to keep the space running i. e. weekly water tank fills and monitoring the appliances/boat; the landlord would like to ensure that you are understanding of that. We live in a wonderful gated marina community that is caring and always willing to help a hand. The Marina staff help ensure the safety and comfort of the residents and are available for support. Mail gets delivered to a locked mailroom and there are facilities like a community garden, additional washing/bathroom facilities, and a boat yard with storage/workspace to rent if needed. The Marina is home to swans, many duck families and fish- it is a beautiful and lively oasis of nature in the middle of London.

Surrey Quays Marina is conveniently located a 12-15 minute walk to the Surrey Quays Overground Station (Windrush Line) and 15-18 min walk or 2 min walk/8 min bus ride to the Canada Water Tube Station (Jubilee Line). There are multiple buses a 2 minute walk from the boat that easily take you anywhere and a direct bus to London Bridge. Small grocery shops and delis are a 2 minute walk away while larger grocery stores and the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre are a 10 minute walk. The beautiful Stave Hill Ecological Park, Russia Dock Woodlands and Southwark Park are all about a 15 minute walk away and the marina sits on the bank of the Thames.

About Me:
I am a 30 yo female, an epidemiologist and also freelance on various creative projects- currently supporting the launch of an arts and culture magazine. I love to read, be outdoors, make art and LOVE feeding the swans and baby ducks that come up to our balcony. I am looking for a fun, friendly and tidy flatmate to join me on the boat. I would prefer a female housemate but am open to considering anyone based on fit. I would love for the boat to feel homey; I’m looking for a flatmate who is interested in getting to know each other -have meals or go on walks together etc- while also being respectful/comfortable with our alone time. Please send me a message with a little bit about yourself and we can set up a viewing!

Rent/Logistics:
The rent for the room is 1,185 pounds + bills which come to about 100-150 per month per person depending on season which accounts for electricity, diesel/gas, council tax, septic tank pump outs and internet. The rent for the entire space is split 60/40 per the square footage. The landlord manages the property and there is a marine tradesman contracted to support with anything on the ground or with more immediacy. I am looking for the new tenant to move in Sept 1 and can discuss flexibility for the week before or after if necessary to see what works best for the outgoing/incoming flatmate. The lease is fixed until April 2026 and then becomes rolling with a 2 month break clause.
Viewings will be held over 3 specified days the week of August 18th- currently AIG 18, 19 and one additional day. I will make an effort to accommodate folks that absolutely cannot make those days. Happy to answer any questions about anything via message or in more detail during the viewing.
Please send me a message with a little bit about yourself, your availability for viewings and your ideal move in date!
