Description
After three years, my flatmate moved out with his partner. So I'm looking for a new flatmate to share a first-floor, two-bedroom flat a short walk from Turnpike Lane station.
*The room*
The bedroom is a good-sized double (8'11 x 14'8 or 2.71 x 4.46m). A previous housemate fit a double bed, large desk (big enough to hold two 30" monitors), bedside table, dresser, wardrobe and bookcase without the room being overcrowded.
The furnished room includes a double bed, wardrobe, dresser, bedside table and, optionally, a desk, desk chair and lamp.
Don't be fooled into thinking the wallpaper means it's "a girl's room". Two of my previous flatmates were cishet males who were unphased by the decor.
*The flat*
The flat's on the first floor in a converted terrace house.
In addition to the bedroom, there's a shared lounge, kitchen and bathroom.
There's a gas stove, electric oven and microwave in the kitchen. And a combination washer/dryer. We each have a fridge, and there's a shared freezer. The flat has gas central heating throughout and double-glazed windows.
The bathroom has a shower over the bath with gas hot water throughout. There's no power shower but excellent water pressure and hot water.
The landlord and property manager are responsive to maintenance requests, etc.
I'm ideally looking for someone willing to sign a one-year lease with a six-month break clause. But I would also consider a three or six-month short-term lease.
*Location*
The flat is:
- in zone 3; nearest tube: Turnpike Lane on the Piccadilly Line; nearest National Rail station: Hornsey
- a relatively easy commute from central London on the night tube route and also on various night bus routes (e. g. 29/N29 from Trafalgar Square via Camden)
- about 500m from Wood Green High Street, where there are good-sized supermarkets, high street clothing shops, The Gym, Cineworld and Vue, and plenty of eateries (restaurants and take-out)
- about 20m from Turnpike Lane, where there are more eateries, smaller supermarkets, and an independent bookshop
- walking distance to some good pubs, a brewery, and Blue House Yard
- a short walk to a larger Sainsbury's off Hornsey High Street
- handy to plenty of green space, including Ally Pally
*Bills*
Bills are currently £203 per month, including gas, electricity, water, TV licence, M250 Volt VirginMedia internet/phone/Mixit TV and council tax (Band C).
*About me*
Day job: Web Testing and Training Officer for a society/charity.
Creative pursuits: photographer, artist and writer.
Side hustle: pet-sitter (cats, dogs, a hamster, fish, even a couple of peacocks!)
I work flexibly from home, with just one day a fortnight in the office. However, last year and this year, I've only been home about 56% of the nights of the year due to pet-sitting and vacations (locally and further afield). I expect 2025 to be similar, so you would effectively have the flat to yourself for around 44% of the year.
I have a broad taste in music, film and TV (well, not that broad: I'm not into reality TV!) I enjoy visiting galleries and museums, taking photo walks and discovering the hidden gems in London and beyond. I also enjoy chilling with friends at the pub.
By 1 November, I will have lived in the flat for 8.5 years.
I'm chatty, friendly and happy to socialise, but I also spend plenty of time doing my own thing. An extroverted introvert, if you will.
I'm a night owl. However, my most recent flatmate worked nights at home (22:00-06:00), and my two previous flatmates were larks, so despite keeping odd hours, I try to be considerate about noise.
I'm a card-carrying member of the 'Guardian-reading, tofu-eating wokerati' ;) I'm vegetarian, but all my flatmates have been omnivores.
LGBTQIA+ friendly household.
Sorry, no couples or kids.
