Description

We are looking for a like-hearted human to join our queer home, as our current housemate is moving out to live with their partner 💛

Our home centres trans+, QTIPOC and disabled identities and lived experiences, and we’re looking for someone who is aligned through shared identities, and wants to intentionally co-create a safe, affirming and supportive home.

Living here currently is:
Aaran (they/them): Nonbinary, South Asian, 29 y/o, I am a practising artist involved in community projects and activism. I love nature, purple and red lighting, eyeliner, astrology, witchyness and being creative. You can find me making moon water, wandering around the garden and drinking spicy teas.

Arlo (they/them): gender expansive, nature loving autistic human, who loves, gardening, reading, art & activism. You can usually find me under galaxy lighting, knitting or floating among our plants. Arlo has multiple disabilities which means sometimes their friends are around a bit more in flare ups to help with tasks.

🌿 About the house:
3 bed house, 3 people total
Cosy living room with sofa, armchair, dining table, a growing zine collection and lots of art. (We have a queer art wall that you are welcome to add to).
Fully equipped kitchen (including fridge/freezer, oven, kettle, toaster, air fryer, microwave)
A small utility room with a washing machine
Gorgeous big garden, both front and back, with large planters, 2 small greenhouses and a shed 🌱
We are usually getting into garden projects around this time of year, so it is a great space if you enjoy being outdoors and growing things

📍 Location
Walthamstow (E17)
15-20 minute walk or bus to Walthamstow Central (Victoria line and Overground)
10-15 minute walk to Wood Street (Overground)

Walthamstow has a really lovely queer community, with local groups, events, spaces, and a general great sense of neighbourhood 💛

🛏️ About the room

Two big windows with lots of natural light and sunlight (it is SE facing so gets the sun most of the day)
The room is unfurnished with a built in wardrobe (note: it doesn't come with a bed)

One step into the house
2 steps into the garden and down to the grass
11 steps upstairs

✨We are ideally looking for someone who is:
Intentionally looking to create an anti-racist, anti-abelist, trans+ and queer home.
QTIPOC, disabled, trans+ and gender expansive people will be prioritised 💛
Someone who understands and values shared labour, accountability, care and is mindful around keeping shared spaces tidy, clean and usable for all of us.
Someone who is keen to build a home together, where we’re comfortable to be ourselves and maintain the safety of the home by being thoughtful about who we bring into the space.
Honour the needs of each other and be flexible when folks capacity is lower to contribute
Someone who values open communication, consent and adaptations for capacity/disabilities.
Anti-racist, anti-ableist, no TERFs etc
Enjoys a balance of community and independence. We like to cook and share meals every once in a while, with low pressure
Open and keen to nurture and contribute to the house and garden. We’re always discussing ways to make the house more usable for all our needs.

About us:
We both work at home and are freelancers, we work flexible hours so are often at home, quietly drawing, reading, resting
We’ve lived here together for 3 years
We’re largely (but not strictly) a vegetarian/vegan household with one of us occasionally cooking meat
We love incense, candles and plants
We’re mindful and intentional about creating a calm, considerate and affirming home environment where everyone feels comfortable and able to recharge.
We’re not a party house, but we do have friends and partners over from time to time for dinners, and hangouts and have thrown the occasional summer magical garden party for our friends and community to be together ❤

Please note: The landlord has referencing requirements, which unfortunately may make it difficult for students, people on benefits, or freelancers without two years of VAT returns
💌 If you are interested, please send us a bit about yourself, and info like: what you are looking for in a home, ideal move in date, current living situation, and anything else you would like to share.

Feel free to ask any questions too! We are aiming to get back to folks by Sunday 26th April, and arrange viewings/calls the following week (w/c 27th April) ❤
