There are lots of independent shops- amazing butchers, several coffee shops, good pubs etc but it doesn't feel snooty. It's a cracking little village St Margarets. :-)

3 minutes walk to St Margarets (London) train station.
Trains every 15mins to London Waterloo 30mins, Vauxhall 25, Clapham Junction 20, Putney 15.
Other direction is Twickenham/Reading, Wimbledon....
5 minutes walk to Richmond bridge.
12-15 to Richmond Station. Serviced by many buses, including N22.
