THE ROOMS: comfortable doubles with plenty of storage space and Victorian features on the top floor of my Victorian home, with shared Jacuzzi bath/shower room . You will also share the fully equipped kitchenette with the other lodger on that floor. The space would suit post-graduate students or a professional who wants a peaceful environment close to central Edinburgh.
In addition, you will have complete access to the shared spaces on the ground floor. These include the TV/snug and open-plan dining room, the lavatory/laundry, the garden and decked patio. You are always welcome to come have a cuppa and a chat in the main kitchen on the ground floor, but you can also choose to stay in the flat and chill there in your own space.
LOCATION AND AMENITIES: We are on Gilmour Road in EH16, a short walk to The King's Buildings campus and great bus links to the other campuses, with transport to the Vet school, and proximity to The Royal Infirmary. We also have a direct bus to The Western General (about 35-40 mins), and we are only 10-15 mins into town with excellent transport links elsewhere. The stop is a two-minute walk away and you can find the following buses, amongst others: 3.7.8.21.24.29.31.35.37.47 ...
PARKING: free 24/7 on-street parking on the opposite side of the road, and outwith the hours of 11:00 - 12:30 am on weekdays. No restrictions on weekends.
SHOPPING: The nearest shopping centre is Cameron Toll, a short walk. It's got a Sainsbury's, Aldi, Boots, WH Smith, Costa, several banks and other shops.
BILLS: these are included in the rent, eg. council tax, broadband, etc. During winter months we have a house conversation about the power bill and if the bill rises exponentially, we split the inevitable increase during these few months.
OTHER HOUSEMATES: Female household, mainly post-graduate and I work in the creative and charity sectors. We like pizza and movie nights, but are happy within our own space, too.
If you're looking for a party house, this isn't it. It's a safe and tranquil place to live. The wildest we get is hotpot and pizza/film when the mood strikes. Housemates are on varied schedules and the emphasis is on consideration and respect for others.
