Description

Welcome!
The situation we are looking for is a short-term SINGLE tenant (PG student, postdoc, professional new to the area) who is currently looking for permanent/ longer term accommodation. We unfortunately cannot accommodate a permanent flatmate as the room is occupied during spring and summer, sorry! :(

We’re a mature (40s) couple living in a clean, quiet, modern flat looking to host an international/new to town postgraduate student or professional temporarily, whilst they seek permanent accommodation. It’s preferable for us to have someone in our own age range but not a deal-breaker; no couples (a non-overnight guest 1x/week or so is tolerable, but no more frequently) or pets also due to space constraints and severe allergies.

1 month to start beginning mid-late January with the potential to extend on a week to week basis through mid March (maximum) is what is being offered. If our arrangement is a good fit, and you’ve not yet found permanent accommodation, then we will revisit and offer an additional week/s based on how well we get on. We’ve done this in the past and have had flatmates as long as a few months, but they were similar in age and very quiet, and were willing to accept that 4 weeks may be the max due to compatibility!

This is a small bedroom (not en-suite, but you’ll have your own bathroom down the hall) on the first floor of a new-build flat. There is a lift, so it’s completely accessible. You’ll have access to kitchen cooking facilities and space for your own groceries. Bills are included in the rent and we aren’t asking for a deposit, just each week paid upfront. We have no problem accommodating halal, vegetarian, or kosher foods in the kitchen cupboards or fridge.

The flat is in a quiet family-oriented/working class neighbourhood, with excellent access to very nearby bus stops that take you to the city centre in ~30 minutes. There is also a cycle path right behind that flat that takes you straight to Leith or Haymarket. Plenty of shops are close by.

We’re both progressive, alt-type of people, disability/neurodivergent/minority/queer friendly, and pretty quiet but can get chatty if one of our special interests is brought up. We don’t really party and don’t want any partiers (or party guests brought home late at night), but enjoy the after work beer or cocktail. We go to bed pretty early during the week as we both work mornings. Smoking isn’t allowed inside (you can certainly smoke outside as long as you pick up the cigarette ends) but vaping/420 is fine. Someone with common interests would be ideal but not an imperative- we both like history, science, horror films, punk and metal music, hiking/the outdoors, museums, reading, and trying international cuisines.

We will have a subletting document for you and ourselves to sign that outlines our expectations for living here (regarding things like cleanliness, safety, rental terms, etc) so please bear that in mind.
