Description

I’ve put off posting this as for months because I am terrified at how many responses I’ll get. So, I’m going to be VERY blunt regarding what type of person I’m willing to share my home with. If you describe yourself as “bubbly”, “outgoing”, “sociable” and/or an “extrovert” my home is not for you.

If you hate small talk, enjoy your own company, aren’t afraid to admit you miss the lockdown and you enjoy peace and quiet above all else then my home IS for you. It is an introvert friendly space for someone who knows that there’s a difference between being alone and being lonely. My home is my quiet sanctuary from the outside world and my spare room is big enough for someone to create their own sanctuary.

While I have no preference for how long someone stays what I am ideally looking for is someone who wants a long term home. I’ve lived in this flat for almost 20 years & just recently bought it by working my ass off for the past 5 years. But, from day one I’ve always known the flat is one room too big for me and while I would prefer to live on my own & can afford to, morally I can’t. Not during a housing crisis and when I know how hard it is to find a flat in this city.

The room itself is spacious and furnished - but as it’s a basement flat I could never describe it as “bright”. It has a double bed, bedside tables, open wardrobe, desk, chest of drawers, end of bed ottoman storage, sofa, wee coffee table and an armchair. It also comes with bedding.

As my home is a basement flat it is not the flat for someone who cranks the heating up to 25° and needs to live in a sauna. The bathroom is shared and is not a wet room. The kitchen/living room is basic until I decide on a new kitchen design. I also have a front courtyard and small back garden with a lot of bird and squirrel visitors. If you’re lucky you may even spot a few raptors.
I’m also one of those lucky people with a separate laundry room. The rent includes all consumables like laundry pods, toilet paper, washing up liquid etc. I even get my milk delivered like I’m a posh person or something lol

Given the location of the flat it’s more suitable for someone without a car (or with a residents permit for the on street residents parking). There are bus stops right outside the flat and most places (for me) are walkable.

Please be aware that I have an elderly rescue cat. I tried introducing her to my neighbour’s cat to see if I’d be able to rent my spare room out to people with pets and it did not go well unfortunately. My cat is a little witch who is addicted to lick-e-lix and will steal your seat the first chance she gets.

I’ve had short and long term lodgers in the past. Short term has mostly been international students - for you guys, all you need to do is turn up with your laptop and your toothbrush & I can provide everything else.

For long term I’ve learned from past experience that we’d really need to be on the same page when it comes to communal living. I’ve lived here for almost 20 years, this is my home & I’m choosing to share it with someone else who I hope understands that I know my flat, have my own way of doing things and my house rules are there for a reason. An example of some of my basic rules are leaving things as you found them, if you make a mess clean it up, don’t put used tissues in the recycling bin and the most important one for the menfolk, put the toilet seat down!

While I would prefer sharing my home with another woman, in reality I have no preference. I’m going for personality compatibility more than anything else.

If you’ve successfully read all the way to the end of this essay, congratulations! If you have any questions please message me.
