Low cost accommodation in Edinburgh

An intelligent, educated and ‘with it’ older gentleman with reduced mobility and poor short-term memory is seeking a Sharer for his home to give him a mix of 15 hours’ help and company each week in exchange for the low-cost accommodation.

He would value the friendly reassurance and company of having someone around his home in the evenings and overnight. He would also like some general practical help around the home including picking up shopping (or helping make a shopping list for him to pick up), keeping an eye on the fridge contents, cooking up to four meals each week, light cleaning and tidying, laundry, carrying heavier items, light gardening, finding things, simple admin/diary management and IT/tech help, and ad hoc other practical tasks that might be needed.

The accommodation on offer is a spacious double-sized bedroom furnished with a single bed, wardrobe, armchair, worktable/desk, bedside table and small fridge. There is a separate loo/basin/laundry room on the same level. The main bathroom is shared. The Sharer also shares the kitchen, living space and garden.

The property is in the lovely Georgian area of Stockbridge on the north side of Edinburgh, just over ½ mile from George Street (10-15 minutes’ walk).

A retired journalist, the gentleman has a wide range of interests including keeping up with the news and current affairs, doing crosswords, listening to the radio (BBC Radio 4, 3 and 5), watching TV – current affairs, documentaries, sports, comedy and quizzes, local walks or visiting the castle, going to a show at the Fringe or to an art exhibition… and interesting conversation. He enjoys company, is easy-to-talk-to, has a good sense of humour, and is used to sharing his home.

As a Sharer you are free to work or study as long as you have enough spare time to give the agreed level of company and support. The ideal Sharer will be a positive, friendly, kind, helpful, practical and reliable non-smoker who shares some of the gentleman’s interests.
