Description
Two rooms have become available in our 5-bed, 2-floor tenement flat in Viewforth.
We’re looking for people to move in as soon as possible. The flat is in a great location near the canal. The flatshare has been run on a semi-collective basis for a couple of decades now. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a mutually supportive living situation.
We have a lovely garden, a driveway (currently with a space for one more car), a bike shed, a spacious living room, storage space, a guest boxroom, a pantry, one bathroom and one WC. The ambiance is peaceful.
We have a hands-off relationship with the landlord through an informal agreement to do most of the running of the flat collectively. We share responsibility for the rent collectively. Although we don’t require the formal commitment of a housing co-op, this works through some shared responsibility, including:
Monthly flat meetings
Some shared finances, such as a deposit system and the grocery order
Bulk dry grocery order and a veg box
A cleaning schedule
Some shared cooking: The flat only has a galley kitchen, so it doesn’t work if 5 people cook 5 individual meals. People therefore tend to batch cook and leave some for others. We do enjoy shared meals too, on a casual basis. Shared cooking also means accommodating dietary requirements.
About us
We are all in our late 20s and early 30s and are looking for someone who is 26 or older. Stuff we enjoy includes cooking, being outdoors, cycling, political activism, playing music, practising languages, board games, reading and gardening. One of us has a cat and it's a pet friendly household.
We work to create a safe space for people with chronic health conditions and dietary requirements, so we’re looking for someone who is vaccinated and willing to be part of that.
Rooms
There are two rooms available, one with a window looking into the garden, and one facing the driveway. And the rent includes all bills including wi-fi, council tax, and the veg box.
Rent for small room: £584
Rent for large room: £650
We would prefer a commitment to a minimum 6-month stay and 2 months’ notice when leaving. Please consider carefully if this is the right kind of set-up for you, as the cheap rent is only sustained by all tenants honouring the collective endeavour.
If interested please email to tell us a bit about yourself and arrange a viewing.
