Description

The flat is situated opposite James Gillespie School next to the Bruntsfield links. We have plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants, pharmacists, GPs, all within a 5-10 minute walk. The walk to Napier University's Merchiston campus is only about 10 minutes, with good bus connections to the Craiglockhart and Sighthill campuses. The flat is in council tax band F.

The flat itself is tremendously spacious, with very high ceilings, plenty of room for pacing around when you’re having a good think and philosophising about the worlds problems. Massive kitchen with an oven, two fridges, two walk in cupboards, dining table. Massive sitting room with another dining table and two rather comfortable couches. In fact, including the couches we have counted there is about 20 seats in the flat.

The room going spare is the smallest bedroom, it says a single room (it’s easily twice the size of the bedroom I grew up in), but you can easily fit a double bed in if preferred, and there is still room for the wardrobe and desk. The window looks out on to the street. The hallway contains two walk in cupboards, priority of usage cupboard will be given to whoever gets the room, though you will have to share it with the hoover. We’ve stuck a huge chest of drawers in the sitting room, which can be used as storage.
We are looking for someone to occupy the room from February to June at least, but a longer period of time is also good as well.

As people we are pretty laid back and non-judgemental. Anything goes really. We’re all musicians, so we’re constantly playing records, guitars, bit of singing, fiddle, sometimes you’ll hear some weird techno noises. I’ve got a cello but I keep forgetting to get it out. If we’ve got money spare we’ll be off to a gig, in the Thorne Record shop, or off for curry at the Mosque Kitchen. A bit of photography, drawing and water colours is a common occurrence. Trips to modern art galleries are common as well, though we’re not experts, we just like looking at bizarre things. We like to keep things social, with visitors popping in and out most days of the week, be that friends, family, partners. We’ve got a guy that pops by most days, and we gel his hair up into liberty spikes. We like having a gathering in the flat a couple of times a month, we just had a massive Christmas dinner a couple of weeks back where we invited everyone we know. So you don’t need to seek permission to have people over or that, I spring stuff upon the others the entire time. We don’t have a TV, we like to keep a sort of ‘doing things’ atmosphere in the flat, but we’ll hock out the projector a couple of times a week and stick on a weird film.

We’re all Shetlanders, down studying, we’ve all known each other for years and are pretty close, and would be looking for someone who fits into the sort of family unit well, gets involved with what we’re up to, and will invite us along to get involved with what they’re up to, but of course we all need time to do things by ourselves or with other people that don’t live in the flat. We will be darting back and fore between Edinburgh and Shetland, but we do spend probably around 9 months of the year in Edinburgh. You need to also be up for side-quests. Two of us are vegetarians, but we’re not going to get all Morrissey about that. It’s just a personal choice. If you have a pet, we can discuss with the landlord about that, we’re not against pets. But within reason, not sure a shire horse would feel particularly comfortable living in a first floor flat. We’re an LGBT flat and one of us goes out with a trans person, you must be tolerant and accepting of this.

Currently, no-one is a non-student, so if you are working full time you will be taking over the remainder of the council tax bill from the guy who is moving out as he was working full time, but if you are a student, there’ll be no council tax. If you do incur council tax we did chip in with the previous guy, so we’d be willing to do the same. All bills are paid through utility warehouse, apart from the Wi-Fi which Is paid separately. No smoking inside the flat, but it’s all cool to smoke outside the flat.
