Description

Hey! I’m Rosie and I’m looking for a housemate as I’m currently living with my cat Colin who, lovely as he is, does not pay me rent. My other (human) roommate is moving out by the end of February, so I’m looking for someone to move in early March. I’m a PhD student in my third, and hopefully final, year at the University of York.

So, about the house. It is a two bedroom terraced house on a lovely street with a cracking view of York Minster. There is on road parking: you’d just have to get a permit if you needed to park a car. It’s about a ten minute walk into York city centre, very close to the hospital (in case you work there/are very accident-prone), and has good access to both universities. It has a comfy living room with a TV with Virgin media, an inbuilt DVD player and access to Netflix/catch-up services, as well as a Wii with various games (Mario Kart, Wii fit etc.). There is a big kitchen with decent fridge/freezer space, and cupboards with all the utensils you’d need (including essentials like a pie maker), and a very good washing machine and big double oven (if you fancy baking cakes for me). We also have a large courtyard garden where I spend some Sunday afternoons channelling my inner Alan Titchmarsh/trying to revive my dead daffodils. There is shared side access with a little alleyway so you can bring a bike around the back if needed. The house is clean and tidy and in good condition - and even has recently had an air purifying/circulating machine thingy installed so we have the freshest of air.

The room is a double room fully furnished with double bed, bedside table, single wardrobe, built in desk with chair, and a chest of drawers.

And now about me! I’m a PhD student, so I’m out most days Monday to Friday teaching seminars/working part-time at the university and doing my research. I’m pretty easy-going and tidy - I like things to be clean but am no Monica from Friends (you don’t have to eat biscuits over the sink). I eat most things, though mostly cook pescatarian stuff at home, and do enjoy a drink at home at the weekends/trying out the many wonderful pubs of York. In my spare time I watch TV, I play the piano (don’t worry, it’s digital, so I can plug headphones into it), and I try and go for runs when I can be bothered. I also enjoy trips to IKEA and seeing my pals, and “doing” yoga (well, I own a yoga mat so that’s a start). And, obviously, I enjoy hanging out with Colin.

I’m happy to live with postgrad students/professionals - as a PhD student, I’m exempt from paying council tax so if you do pay that, you’d have to sort out that expense. I think with my part excluded, the total council tax for the house is something like £89. The rent includes all other bills though, so gas, electricity, water, TV licence, Virgin media TV, internet and Netflix. If you’re interested in the room, please do get in touch :-)
