Homeshare York offers a house sharing opportunity

The householder says:
“I am seeking a sharer at my home to give a mix of 10 hours’ help and occasional company in exchange for the low-cost accommodation.

I’m 76 years old and I originate from Sussex but have lived in York for 29 years. I had a long career in business and finance and retired 13 years ago.

My interests are in politics, history and economics and get pleasure from the simple things in life like walking on the beach followed by fish and chips.

I’ve been divorced for many years. My family is based in London and New Zealand. I’m very fortunate in my friends and I’m in regular touch with my former step children and god children.

I would appreciate assistance with small jobs around the house; IT problems; gardening, some shopping and if possible some trips out in the car to stately homes and the coast or other interesting locations. A driver would therefore be useful but not essential.

I have some rare health problems which leave me very tired most of the time and therefore any practical assistance with shopping etc may vary.

I would prefer a non-meat/poultry eater. I’m meticulous in my running of the house...The house has to be tidy and well organised as the health problems can leave me absentminded so I would appreciate a likeminded home sharer.

The accommodation on offer is a furnished double bedroom with its own bathroom and shared use of the kitchen, sitting room and garden in Dringhouses, York. There is some flexibility in how you may want to set your room up. You will have access to the washing machine and there is wi-fi available. There is also a small fridge freezer for your personal use. I am used to my own company but we can talk through the use of the living room, the television and spending any time together to agree what we both will feel comfortable with.”

The City of York Council offers Homeshare York matching between an older person who has a room available and would like some help in the home with a younger person looking for accommodation who is happy to help out.
The City of York Council runs the project on a not-for-profit basis with the funding contributing to the running of the scheme. We have a thorough interview process and will need good references and a DBS check before we introduce you to the householder.
