Description
Hello! My name's Stef, and I'm a part-time lecturer at the Uni of York, as well as a freelance folk/classical musician. I'm looking for someone like-minded to share my flat and hopefully some nice meals.
I work part time at the Uni and live most of the time in Cambridge with my husband. I spend an aggregate of about 12–15 weeks per year in York, but spread out across the year. Living with me means having to share a bathroom when I'm there, but having the run of the place the rest of the time, including the option of using my room to accommodate guests, if that's something you'd find useful. So this arrangement is sort of a flat-share, but also sort of having your own place as well.
Although I'm not there all the time, I value living with like-minded people, and I'm keen to find someone who would enjoy hanging out, sharing meals, complaining about work or the state of the world, and generally being a mate!
The flat is currently part-furnished, as my previous flatmate brought her own. I can move my furniture back in or not, depending on your preference You'd be welcome to put your own stamp on the living space, including hanging pictures etc.
Electricity, internet, and water would be additional to rent and shared between us, and I guess we'd negotiate percentages based on how much time you expect to be in the flat. I pay the Council Tax (Band C).
The flat has a large, triple-aspect lounge/diner with gorgeous light all year round, which opens into a modern fitted kitchen, with lots of cupboard space, a built-in oven, hob, washer/dryer and fridge. The living area includes two large sliding doors with a Juliet balcony, which is an absolute god-send in the summer.
The available double bedroom has built-in wardrobes with efficient, economical storage and a large wall mirror. There's also a three-piece bathroom with a shower over the bath. You would have the use of a large storage cupboard in the lounge/diner, if needed.
It's on the first floor of a development off Burton Stone Lane (close to Saint Peter's School), accessed through a communal hallway with a staircase leading to the first floor. There are lawned communal gardens outside the flat, and an allocated parking space.
About me (am I the kind of person you'd feel happy living with?): I'm into music (obviously, being a musician!), outdoor sports, animals (mainly cats), trying to have a healthy and sustainable lifestyle (though admittedly falling short a lot of the time), culture and experimental arts, languages (especially dead ones), medieval and ancient history, reading about psychology and psychoanalysis (especially Jung, although I'm also a sucker for bad pop psychology), going to the gym, swimming (especially in rivers), and travel. I absolutely love cooking and do it to relax; I'm a fan of small-scale organic, local food, and although I'm violently opposed to processed food, I cave in and eat it sometimes, because I'm human! I work too much, but don't we all...
I wouldn't say I'm interested in politics, but I have my principles and try to educate myself, even though the depressing state of things makes me want to hide under a rock. I struggle to find common ground with both small- and large-C conservatives. I care about equality and try my best to be an effective ally in the sadly-more-necessary-than-ever fight against all forms of bigotry and social injustice. I'm proud of my working-class roots. The amount of stuff we throw away makes me think the whole Western world is insane, but I'm a hypocrite because... well, modern life makes it almost impossible not to be. I like to think I'd grow my own vegetables if I didn't have to work in one city and live in another... but I don't have a good track record with house plants!
I value self-awareness, open-mindedness, creativity, reflexivity, compassion, critical thinking, silliness, rude jokes, generosity, and being comfortable setting boundaries.
I'm prepared to negotiate on pretty much all aspects of the arrangement (including rent) in order to share the flat with someone I'm confident I will get along with.
