Description

The house is between Farmoor village and Cumnor village and is in an amazing location. We are right on the Thames Path (60 second walk to the river) and right beside Farmoor Reservoir. Perfect for walking and river life (swimming, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, etc.).

The house is an old large 4-bedroom farmhouse, spread over 3 floors and built in 1650. There is a large kitchen, dining room (with a wood-burning stove), living room (with a wood-burning stove, and a piano), 4-bedrooms, 1 spare room (which is generally used for laundry and exercise) 1 bathroom and 2 toilets, as well as a beautiful garden, with an oak tree and a big old yew tree. There is also a shed/outhouse for tools, bikes and some storage, as well as a free-standing wooden shed. The house backs out onto fields. It is a well-lived in, old, rustic, country-type house. The garden is great and we have a few veg and herb beds as well as some fruit bushes/trees and a greenhouse.

The two rooms are large and bright - one is on the first floor, approximately 4 x 4 square meters; the other, on the top floor, is about 3.5 x 4 square meters, with extra storage room on the corridor. They come unfurnished, and could both be used as double rooms. Alternatively, our current housemates who will be leaving, a couple, are renting both rooms and use one as their private living space/office and the other as their bedroom - and we would welcome a couple interested in the same arrangement.

The household: We are Sybilla (33) and Dave (76). We have been an intergenerational household (our current housemates being in their early 50s, and their dog nine!) and really value and enjoy the richness this diversity brings. We are brought together by our love of nature and music, an interest in spirituality and love for a silly good laugh. The house has definitely a homely vibe to it - and we have the occasional meal together on weekends or festivities.

I'm Sybilla - after researching ancient philosophy I am now training in London to become a psychosynthesis psychotherapist. I'm very active in a local capoeira group (an Afro-brazilian fight/dance) and really enjoy music, singing, dancing, and being very silly.

Dave is a lovely semi-retired gardener and handyman, who has lived a full and colourful life with many stories to tell. He has a huge music collection that we keep in the living room, and extensive knowledge and love for the local wildlife and country paths.

We're looking for two housemates who share our love of nature, enjoy a giggle and want to make it a home. Pets are welcome - and we may consider adopting a cat or a dog in the coming year. You might need a car for accessibility, although Oxford city centre is only a 25-30 minute cycle, depending on how fast your legs can carry you. It is 5.8 miles to Gloucester Green. The nearest bus stop is in Farmoor and is a 20-25 minute walk along the reservoir or river. We live at the end of a Private Road so there is no through traffic although we do get lots of walkers that come down the road to access the river. There are only 6 houses in total down the private road and all the neighbours are very friendly; there's a nice vibe here.

We're looking forward to hearing from you!
