Description

We strive to create a household that is oriented around the shared goal of sustainable living. We're re-emerging from the bubbles of isolation that were forced upon us during the pandemic, and are creating convivial communities and networks. By living together, sharing food, space, and creative ideas, we are enrolling others into common goals.

Three of us currently live in the household: Jonny, a British postdoc from Newcastle who studies radioactive wolves in Chornobyl and urban rewilding, Karolina who is an artist and author from Kyiv interested in gardening and ecology, and Eben, who is a professor at the university from the USA with interests in human rights, multispecies justice, and symbiotic viruses.

Each month we aim to have four vegan house dinners and we alternate cooking dinner for each other each week. Living intentionally in a household like ours means going beyond the general expectations of a “housemate” to become a supportive member of a community. We’ll ask you to stay on top of a simple household duty—like taking out the trash, managing the compost, or putting the dishes away. We have a beautiful garden, so gardeners and plant lovers who want to help care for it to the front! We are already growing some food and there is room to grow more.

If you are interested in living with us please send a short introduction about yourself. Be sure to include any experiences with or your interest in cooperative or collective living. We are especially interested in sharing our house with artists, activists, journalists, dancers, musicians, film makers, chefs, or fellow scholars. Generally we are not interested in living with students, but postdocs, lecturers, tutors, and other University staff are welcome.

We are a queer friendly household and don't discriminate based on race or gender. Two rooms are available for the price of one: a furnished bedroom and an office. The rent is £700 a month plus £100 to cover the utilities, wifi, toilet paper, weekly cleaning, and council tax. The house is next to a shared community park, we have a hot tub in the private back garden, and one of our neighbours runs a pop up Sauna Club. The house is in Iffley Village within easy biking distance of downtown Oxford. Direct bus lines to the centre of town also run regularly from the Iffley Turn stop, which is a five minute walk from the house.

Initially we will sign a three-month lodger agreement, ideally from 31 May till 31 August. After three months, if we feel like you are a good fit for the household we will invite you to sign a long term lodger agreement.
