Across the secret, two-and-a-half-mile path, you will get a tour of the town and visit landmarks of high interest such as the Market Square, Market Hall, the Castle Bank, The Clock Tower, Brookside Square, St Edward’s Church, and Bryn y Castell, just to name a few. Further up from the Hotel but still very close lies the starting point of Knighton’s unrivalled attraction – Offa’s Dyke Path. As one of Britain’s National Trails, the walking path covers 177 miles along the Wales-England border. Offa’s Dyke Path was originally constructed by Dyke King Offa, probably as part of his plan to divide his Kingdom of Mercia from rival realms in what is now Wales. The spectacular path passes eight countries and is dotted with many different places such as Sedbury Cliffs, Prestatyn, Marches, Brecon Beacons National Park, the Wye Valley, the Shropshire Hills and the Clwydian Range / Dee Valley. Another similarly attractive trail in Knighton is Glyndŵr’s Way. The 135-mile. path’s history and landscape may not be as glamorous as that of Offa’s Dyke Path, yet it is definitely worth your steps and eyes, and you can enjoy bits of its beauty in more than a single go.
