Description

My wonderful Aussie housemate is moving out in December, so I've been given permission by the landlord to continue the tenancy for another year with a super sub - taking us to December 2026. The person would have to pay 50% of the Council Tax, so it won't suit a student.

The apartment in central Bath, a 1 minute walk from Bath Spa train station and literally across the road from the central bus station. Couldn't be better.

Nicely decorated throughout, and in good condition, we have a superb large and bright living room looking out over a beautiful street. We also have an airy kitchen with all the white goods you'd need (including an excellent Sage coffee machine - caffeine addict right here), good sized bathroom, small separate loo, 'snug' by the front door and nice big cupboards opposite our respective bedrooms. The apartment is big and airy and a great place to chill. The landlord and tenancy agency are genuinely great.

My housemate and I furnished the property ourselves with us both supplying about 50% of the furniture each. Luckily, the only major thing we need to replace when my housemate moves out is the living room table (which we use as a dining table) and the cutlery / plates (etc). Other important communal things such as the sofas, living room chairs, TV and Indian ceramic elephant (crucially important) are mine.

You will need to furnish the bedroom you'll be occupying, including your bed and mattress etc.

The entrance to the property is by quite an weird route through an archway next to the University of Bath's Carpenter House (not from the main road). (Side note: we never hear the students). When you come to view I can give directions.

Next to the entrance we have a small private garage which my housemate manages to fit his small VW Polo into (great effort) and also a set of parking spots outside that garage which we share with other businesses and residents on Southgate Street.

Our landlord's family owns the shop beneath the property and our bills are calculated by him and sent to us on a quarterly basis. This is because our water, electricity and gas metres are in the shop's premises. We of course have access whenever we need if we wanted to check ourselves. It's Council Tax Band B and bills (including CT) usually come to around £200 per person per month (obviously depending on utility usage). The lads in the shop below are awesome and we get along well, they even take in our post!

I'm pretty relaxed on who the super sub is, I'm pretty easy going but as a professional myself the vibe will probably suit someone 25+.

.... final thing. I'm gonna start viewings in mid-October, however I'm putting this ad up in September as I'm keen on finding the right person to take the place of the departing Aussie. Please don't worry about contacting me until later in late September / early October! Much easier to wait nearer the time.

Some photos are attached, I can send more if you need.

About me:

I worked for the UK Government (the Cabinet Office and FCDO) as a Civil Servant until 2022. Before that I worked for the EU and then we all had to come home because of Brexit .... ! I used to live in Brussels and used to also own a place in London (in the Brixton/Clapham area). Then I moved to Bath a couple of years back. After arriving in the West Country I set up a policy and futures consultancy with an ex-colleague. Seems to be going okay so far (famous last words!).

I am a bit of a politics and policy geek but also adore sport (Bath Rugby), exercise (morning gym sessions), culture (theatre, cinema etc.), travelling (60 countries and counting ...) and the great outdoors (where should I go hiking next?). I'd love to find a housemate who is intellectually curious too.

I'm very independent and won't be superglued to the house / living room as I go to the gym in the mornings and am often travelling with work, for holiday and to see friends and family (and maybe on a few excursions with a new housemate?). I am a relaxed dude and like spending time with people and socialising but am equally happy chilling solo, particularly after a long day at work.

Can't wait to hear from you :-)
