The house is situated on Churchgate Street which is very central to the town and is in what is called the medieval grid. .It was originally a stone built house and evidence of that is present in the entrance but the existing house suggests it was built in the 16th century. in the 19th century it was used as a shoe shop and a shop facade was added which remains today.
