Your guide to living in Fulham

Fulham has a little bit of everything to offer. With the River Thames right on your doorstep, you're never far away from a scenic stroll along the river, or even a pint at one of the many riverside pubs. There's also plenty of green space, legendary restaurants and pubs, and two football grounds. Just a short walk from the Kings Road, Fulham is nearby to the hustle and bustle of everything this iconic road in Chelsea offers too. To help you out, we've put together a short guide to living in Fulham, so take a look before becoming an SW6'er...

Where is it?

If you're looking to move to the ‘posh’ side of London, Fulham can be a more affordable option, known for being another upmarket neighbourhood next to Kensington and Chelsea.

The neighbourhood of Fulham is comprised of several areas: Sands End, Imperial Wharf, Parsons Green, West Brompton, Chelsea Harbour, Munster Village and Fulham Broadway.

What’s it like?

This pocket of SW London was actually once renowned for being run down and debaucherous – so some parts still retain a grittier edge that appeals to those who may have a little less to splash out on rent. You'll find Fulham located along the District Line, which is known as one of the most inconsistent and unreliable tube lines on the Underground network. Warning: prepare to be late to work if you take this line! Although having one of the highest average rent prices in London, Fulham has one of the lowest council tax rates in London.

What’s the transport like?

Fulham has several tube stations in and around the area, making this neighbourhood well connected for travelling and commuting. The District line will have to be your best friend (even if unreliable). With great bus links, you can get anywhere around London from Fulham, such as Central London, Clapham, Notting Hill to Richmond.

District Line: Fulham Broadway, Parsons Green, Putney Bridge (& London Overground) West Brompton

London Overground: Imperial Wharf

Where do the locals go?

Parks: With several green areas in Fulham, you’re never too far away from a breather away from city life. Eelbrook Common has a playground, basketball court, tennis club and football pitch, and is a popular dog walking spot for those with a pooch. South Park, Bishops Park, and Hurlingham Park are all other options, or even the well known Parsons Green, a small triangular area of grass with plenty of pubs and coffee shops nearby.

Events & Activities: One of Fulham’s social events of the year, Polo in the Park, takes place every summer in Hurlingham Park, located next to the exclusive The Hurlingham Club. Get ready for a sunny weekend of dressing up and watching polo matches, paired with plenty of champagne. For football fans, Fulham Broadway is home to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea FC’s stadium. Fulham FC's stadium, Craven Cottage is also not too far away – so there’s plenty of options to get your football fix for you fans. Riverside Chelsea Harbour is a great place to explore – head there for views of luxurious boats, the Design Centre, and Lots Road Auctions to bid on some stunning antiques.

The best restaurants: One of Fulham’s top restaurants is The River Cafe, serving seasonal Italian dishes, with the menu changing several times a year. No wonder it’s got one Michelin star! Check out Vicino on the  New Kings Road or Il Pagliaccio (or Paggs as its also known) on Wandsworth Bridge Road for some of the best Italian food around, the latter getting a royal seal of approval with Princess Diana regularly frequenting the restaurant, AND Princess Charlotte attending a birthday party there! Finish the week off with a Sunday roast at Brook House, just off Eelbrook Common.

The best pubs: Located in the three corners of Parsons Green are three iconic pubs; Aragon House, Duke on the Green and The White Horse (also known as the Sloaney Pony!) Find the Fulham locals sat in one of these three pubs any day of the week for a G&T. Riverside pubs don’t get any better than The Crabtree or The Blue Boat, both with leafy gardens perfect for an afternoon in the sun.

The best coffee shops: Catch locals grabbing an oat milk flat white with a ham and cheese croissant at District, located next to Parsons Green tube station. Boki, located across the road from District has its very own sunny terrace to sit at - this place will be your new go-to spot!

Shops: Interior designers and decor lovers far and wide come to Fulham to visit One World, a furniture and interior store located in Parsons Green. It may be on the pricier side, but it’s a fab place for interior design inspo, or just grab coffee and cake at their in-store cafe! For all you foodies, Fulham has its very own Wholefoods, fully stocked with everything from organic fruit and veg to a fresh salad bar. The New Kings Road and the Fulham road is also packed full of stores from small boutiques to charity shops filled with gems!

What’s it famous for?

Like mentioned before, Fulham is the home of Chelsea's very own football club - but game days can get extremely busy and rowdy in the area! The area has one of the highest numbers of terraced Victorian houses in London, making it a great residential area for families and young professionals to live in, with many schools around too.
