Description
Matthew, 29, Philosophy student at Edinburgh—quiet, tidy, and handy enough to fix things that break.
WHY AM I LOOKING RIGHT NOW?
I was in Canada the entire summer doing fieldwork for a research project of mine, and so could not arrange anywhere back here from a distance. Since getting home I have been looking for somewhere to see me through the final year of my degree.
I ideally need a room with a desk, as I write a copious amount. The Meadows would be no complaint from me at all, and the Main and Law libraries are where I tend to spend eight or more hours a day, so anywhere within walking distance of either would suit me well.
WHY AM I A GOOD FLATMATE?
Tidy, happy to put money towards communal upkeep, and never precious about my food or snacks. I am also rather handy, having been brought up on a farm and worked them for fifteen years, which turns out to teach you a thing or two about maintenance—that has saved previous flatmates and landlords a fair bit over the years, and the job tends to get done better than waiting on someone to come out. Sociable and easy to talk with by nature, though I value my own space and quiet just as much.
THE REST OF IT
I am genuinely looking forward to the dissertation this year (it is on entropy, and whether the idea that time only runs one way holds up as well as we assume). I have published work already, recently submitted another paper in critical geography and property theory, and am applying to PhD programmes in Anthropology in New York for next year.
Only a half nerd, I promise. Love a wee drink with friends, road trips, pub quizzes at the Golf Tavern or the Chanter on a Thursday, camping, hiking, and travelling—I once converted a camper van to tour Europe in, then lived in it in the Highlands. Films and shows too, currently re-watching Better Call Saul with my partner (long distance).
No smoking, no pet (sadly), and no heavy partying these days.
Happy to answer anything, and I can put you in touch with previous flatmates (3 Females, 2 Males) for a reference if that would be useful.
