The Retreat is a historic home dating from 1789, with plenty of original character alongside modern facilities.

The spacious communal kitchen/dining area includes a seven-burner, three-oven range, Bosch dishwasher, American-style fridge/freezer and a large dining table.

All the main kitchen equipment is provided.

Across the three floors, the property also has three shower rooms plus a separate utility room.

The household is made up of working professionals with a variety of careers and backgrounds. There is usually someone around for a chat in the kitchen, while everyone still has the privacy of their own room.

Housemates occasionally organise social evenings, movie or music nights and trips or hikes into the Lake District. You're welcome to join in, but there's absolutely no obligation.

You can walk and cycle directly from the house onto local paths, while the Lake District is just a short drive away.

Buttermere is approximately 10–15 minutes away by car, making it easy to get onto the fells after work or at weekends.

The property is centrally located in Cockermouth in a quiet residential neighbourhood, approximately one minute's walk from the river and within easy walking distance of Main Street.

Shops, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, cocktail bars and other amenities are all nearby, so there's very little need to use a car while you're in town.
