Description

This is a large and gorgeous, fully furnished room in a very spacious two-storey, three-bedroom townhouse in Dalston. Rent includes all bills and utilities.

You are sharing with two female academic professionals (anthropology), and my partner who visits from France regularly.

Your room is very large and will feel like your own little apartment/studio. It is slightly sous-terrain and has a north-facing bay window with a desk and office chair, a double bed, walk-in closet, four seater sofa and coffee table. The upstairs kitchen, large living room, and the garden are shared by all of us. The house is full of plants and you are free to add your own everywhere.

Nearby are Ridley Road market, nightlife, restaurants, flea markets/thrift stores, and good public transport connection to Central via two Overground stations (Dalston Kingsland/Dalston Junction). While all this happens nearby, we are in a very quiet residential street with a bucolic large garden in the back, getting the best of both worlds. We have a large patio with chairs and a table, a garden swing, a vegetable patch and a lawn.

About me: I am a university lecturer in medical anthropology. I work quite a lot while keeping life interesting. I am queer, neurodiverse, kind, and community-oriented. I have lived in houseshares all my life and I enjoy making a cozy home with people while also respecting everyone's privacy. Originally I am from east Germany but I have lived in Canada for 15 years and shorter periods in South Africa and the US (NYC, Chapel Hill). I love theatre, reading, yoga, cooking, cycling, and spending time with friends. A few things I am not so good with: incense and scented candles and noise (e. g. loud music/TV).

I would like to share a house with kind, considerate and interesting folks. Self-awareness, anti-racism and good communication skills are all important to us. This is definitely a grown-up house and a real home. We are busy and mostly out and about, but there is also banter, food, and generosity going around, if want to join.

We have lovely neighbours upstairs, as well as left and right from our garden, and we look out for each other. So this place is truly a home. Please tell me about you in your response and how you like to houseshare.

We have two shared bathrooms (one with bathub/shower), so there is never a need to coordinate. The kitchen is fully equipped, including tableware, large assortment of spices, food processors etc. I am not vegan but my partners is, so we rarely eat or cook meat at home, but we don't mind if you do.

Council tax band D (included in utilities).
