Description
Hello, I'm advertising a double room with private bathroom in a large, well-maintained terraced house in De Beauvoir Town.
For those not familiar with the area, De Beauvoir Town is just north of Shoreditch and smack in between Islington and Hackney. Indeed, my road divides the two boroughs!
Despite being so close to lots of hipster areas, the neighbourhood itself is remarkably peaceful and has lots of cool local hangouts (cafes, pubs, restaurants etc.). But if you want a more edgy vibe, with a higher chance of being mugged or having your mobile phone snatched from your hands, Dalston and the Kingsland Road are only 5 mins away! Personally I like to mix it up a bit.
You can see the room, bathroom, living space etc. from the photos so I won't describe those further. I will confess that the garden does need quite a lot of attention (and I plan to pay some people to provide that in due course).
This is a "live with the landlord" scenario, so don't message me if you don't feel comfortable with that idea. And currently it would be just me and whoever rents the room - previously there were 3 of us in the house, but it became a bit hectic during Covid and I converted one of the spare bedrooms into an office in which I now spend a few days a week doing my very boring job as a lawyer. I have an existing housemate but she is planning to move in late Dec / early Jan.
This set up will not be for everyone especially not for those who want a "buddy up" with people of the same age. I understand! But I will say that the house (and it is a house, not a flat) is very spacious (unlike many houseshares) and (generally) well maintained, and good value for what it is.
I do however have a number of "house rules", the main ones are:
- you must drink at least 4 glasses of wine per week and give me your opinion to assist me as I continue to develop my sommelier skills (I did my A-level in wine a while ago, but there's always room for improvement!);
- you must be prepared to sample my culinary creations from time to time which are normally brilliant but can be a bit experimental;
- occasionally I will have random (but extremely nice) people over for drinks or dinner and you must be prepared to say hi - if you decide after 10mins you'd rather retreat to your room that's totally fine!
By the way, these house rules also work in reverse and I would be extremely disappointed if there weren't some random guests invited to the house from time to time.
The monthly rent includes all bills and any other hidden extras so the financial set up is simple. I do have a short form contract which I ask people to sign which is for everyone's security and benefit. I'm open to shorter term lets as well as longer term as long as we feel that it's the "right fit" (whatever that means in practice!).
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
