Description
We are a Not-for-Profit charity in London who run a Homeshare programme, where we find Homesharers who are willing to provide approximately 10 hours a week of help, support and companionship to a householder who has a spare room.
There is an opportunity for a Homesharer to live in a friendly family home in Forest Hill, south-east London, where they would be expected to help with the care of a 65-year-old man with early-onset dementia.
TRANSPORT
• The location of the property is approximately a 12-minute walk to both Forest Hill and Sydenham stations, which are both on the Windrush line of the Overground.
• Approximately 12 min walk will take you to Forest Hill and Sydenham High Streets, where buses are available to other destinations, including central London.
• Within a 3 min walk from the property, there is the number 75 bus stop.
HOUSEHOLDER
A Caribbean-born man, 65, and his wife, who live in a five-bedroom semi- detached house in Forest Hill, Lewisham.
They have three adult children, two of whom currently live at the family home in Forest Hill in the short term.
The householder in need of support is otherwise physically healthy and retains good long-term muscle memory. He is, however, now losing some use of language and needs regular company during select times during the week.
His family feel he would benefit from having a Homesharer to provide companionship, as well as an overnight presence, along with some support with daily activities, which would be an added benefit when the family are working or unavailable (especially on Mondays and Wednesdays).
His routine consists of getting out of bed to shower independently, having breakfast independently, spending time in his room (looking at paperwork and reading) and joining in with activities with family members later in the day, including looking after his grandchild, playing tennis or going for a walk. The householder is still able to do family chores such as washing up and ironing.
After dinner, he relaxes in front of the television with his family. The level of the householder’s activities depends on whether or not family members are working that day.
He loves to garden, go to museums and exhibitions, watch films on television, spend time with his family, see friends and play tennis. He and his wife are very active and have a membership to use the tennis courts in a nearby park, which is a few minutes away from the house.
The ideal Homesharer would be in their 30’s+, be clean/caring/compassionate and tidy, could cook a weekly meal and eat it with family members, play tennis with the householder once and ideally commit to a decently long period of stay in the house.
They would prefer a non-smoker and non-pet owner.
ACCOMMODATION
The Homesharer’s room is a spacious one located upstairs, with a double bed, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe for storage. The room accommodates an office table and chair, should the Homesharer work from home.
There is a bathroom upstairs with a shower and bath, and a toilet and shower downstairs.
The family have a beautifully maintained, spacious garden and a well-equipped kitchen with a large dining area. There is also a utility room with a washing machine and dryer that the Homesharer can use, and a separate living room with a TV that can be enjoyed. Wifi is available throughout the property.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The room is available from January 2026, subject to DBS, Reference and ID checks and after an initial Homesharer interview has been organised.
If you are interested, please contact us on our landline provided in the advert or give us your email address, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have and give you more information about the scheme.
The room is available for a minimum stay of six months plus, if you can commit. We will be happy to send you an application form.
