Description
My partner and I are a married gay couple and live in the house. I am Scottish and my partner is Vietnamese. We are 45-55 years old.
We have a three-storey house in New Cross that was extensively renovated about four years ago and offers a fantastic living space as you can see from the video and pics. We know that many people don't want to live with the landlord(s), and we understand that. But if you live with us this will be your home too, so get in touch, come over to meet us and view the house.
The house has four bedrooms. We use one and have one as a study. We have one lodger who is a postgrad at Goldsmiths, and so we have one spare room because our second lodger is moving out.
In the video, it is the larger of the two rooms shown that is available.
As well as a shared lounge/TV room, there is a large open plan garden room/dining area and kitchen leading onto a patio and garden.
There are two bathrooms: our one is on the ground floor and the bathroom on the first floor (shown in the video and pic) is for the use of the two housemates, so you'd be sharing it with only one other person. The bathroom has a large walk in shower.
The room for rent is on the second floor. It is a very large double. It is at the front of the house and on a clear day you can see the Shard! The room has two windows making it very bright and airy.
The house has gas central heating and there is a radiator in each room.
The house is about a minute's walk away from New Cross Mainline/Overground station. London Bridge is one stop away (5 minutes), Cannon St is two stops away (10 minutes) and Canada Water for the Jubilee Line is just two stops on the Overground. The Deptford Bridge DLR station is about five minutes’ walk away and there are numerous buses available from the bus stop in front of/opposite the house.
Goldsmith's College is less than five minutes' walk from the house, and Greenwich University is about 10 minutes by bus from over the road.
I am an academic and work from home a couple of days a week, so we’d be looking for sharers who can fit in with that.
We are sociable, but the house is big enough that we’re not going to be on top of each other.
We like cooking, and if you like Vietnamese food, you’ll be in for a treat. We’d be happy to have shared meals sometimes too – not a requirement though!
When the weather permits, we like to have friends around for a barbecue on the patio. You’d be welcome to join, or indeed have your own friends over.
For those of you unfamiliar with New Cross, it is a lively area with Deptford High St only a few minutes’ walk away where you’ll find a street market, Asian and African cafes and restaurants as well staples such as Greggs, Tesco and Asda.
The George and Dragon gay bar is a short bus ride or pleasant walk away, and they have excellent cabaret at the weekend. We're regulars there on a Saturday night, so you'd be welcome to join us.
Hai, my partner, plays badminton 2-3 times a week and we both use The Gym Group gym in Lewisham which is about 15-20 minutes' walk from the house (or on the 225 bus route if it's cold and wet!)
We have no set-in-stone idea of what our new housemate will be like, however please note that we are looking for a male sharer. We are a gay household and although being gay is not a requirement, you'd have to be comfortable living with a gay couple.
Additionally, although I clean the communal areas, you'd be expected to clean your bathroom on a rota basis with our current lodger.
Postgraduate students are welcome as are professionals/working people. Have a look at the (shaky) video and feel free to drop us a message if you have any questions.
The rent is £1050 per calendar month, and this includes all bills such as utilities, Council Tax and broadband/Virgin TV. In addition, that covers stuff like toilet rolls, laundry/cleaning detergents and general consumables that make the house function!
Due to the configuration of the house, there is no space for bicycle storage unfortunately.
If you have any questions, just drop us a message and we'll get back to you.
Our current lodger is moving out in early December and so I expect the room to be available on 9 December.
