Description
I'm renting out a lovely, spacious double room in my three-bedroom, three-storey house in Wimbledon, sharing with me and my very cute Boston Terrier, Arlo.
It's a relaxed, LGBT+ friendly household, and I'm looking for someone who wants to feel at home rather than just rent a room.
I'm a live-in landlord, but I don't want anyone living here to feel like they're constantly having to follow a list of house rules. Ideally, I'd love to find someone who's friendly, easy-going and enjoys the occasional chat, meal or glass of wine together, but who equally values their own space and independence.
The House
The house is spread over three floors, so there's plenty of space to relax, spend time together or do your own thing.
There's a separate living room, dining room, a large kitchen with a snug area and a garden.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you'd expect, including a dishwasher, air fryer, blender and plenty of cooking equipment.
The living room is a comfortable space to relax and watch TV, while the kitchen snug is a nice spot for a coffee or a catch-up.
There's enough shared space that we're not going to be living on top of each other, which I think makes a big difference when sharing a home.
Your Room
The bedroom is a really good-sized double with plenty of natural light.
There's lots of storage, including large built-in wardrobes and additional space under the bed, so you shouldn't struggle to find somewhere for all your things.
It's a lovely, bright room with plenty of space to make it your own.
The Location
We're in a nice residential part of Wimbledon, close to several parks and green spaces.
It's a great location if you want somewhere a little quieter to come home to, while still being well connected to the rest of London.
Transport links are really good:
* Haydons Road (Thameslink)** – less than 5 minutes' walk.
* Colliers Wood (Northern Line)** – around 15 minutes' walk.
* Wimbledon (District Line and South Western Railway)** – around 17 minutes' walk.
So getting into central London, commuting or heading out for the evening is pretty straightforward.
Rent, Bills & Cleaning
Rent is £950 per month, including bills.
That covers gas, electricity, water, council tax and superfast broadband.
We also have a professional cleaner who comes every two weeks for a thorough three-hour clean.
The cost is £45 per visit, and we'd take turns paying, so you'd cover every other visit.
It helps keep everything looking good without spending too much of our free time cleaning!
A Little About Me
I'm 52, gay, work in reinsurance and would describe myself as friendly, sociable and fairly laid-back.
I enjoy having a home where we can have a chat about our day, share the occasional meal, watch something on TV or have a drink together.
That said, I'm equally happy doing my own thing, and there's absolutely no expectation that we need to spend all our time together.
For me, it's about getting along, being comfortable around each other and having a home where we can both relax.
I work from home most days, so ideally I'm looking for someone who goes into the office regularly and works from home no more than one or two days a week. That way, we both get a bit of space to ourselves during the week.
And then there's Arlo!
He's my Boston Terrier and very much part of the household. He's a lovely little character, so you'll definitely need to be someone who likes dogs.
Who I'm Looking For
More than anything, I'm looking for someone who's easy-going, considerate and would enjoy being part of a friendly household.
Someone who's happy to have a chat in the kitchen, maybe share the occasional dinner or drink, but is equally comfortable doing their own thing.
I like to keep the house reasonably clean and tidy, so it would be great to find someone with a similar approach.
That doesn't mean I'm expecting to live in a show home where you're scared to leave a mug on the side! Life gets busy, things occasionally get messy, and that's absolutely fine.
It's really just about being considerate, doing our fair share and making it an enjoyable place for both of us to live.
What About Pets?
I'm potentially open to someone bringing their own dog, although this would depend on their size, temperament and, most importantly, whether they get along with Arlo.
We'd need to have a chat about it and arrange for the dogs to meet before agreeing to anything.
Interested?
Ultimately, I'm looking for someone who's friendly, has a good sense of humour, respects each other's space and wants to enjoy living together without unnecessary rules or drama.
It's my home, but I'd really like it to feel like yours too.
If it sounds like somewhere you'd be happy living, drop me a message telling me a little about yourself, what you do and what you're looking for in a home.
I'd love to hear from you!
