Hi everyone,
My name is Rhiannon and I’ve been renting this flat since 2010. I love it but due to having a green card, I am living in NYC most of the time so I am subletting out rooms in the flat, till I can return. There will now be what was my room available - fully furnished with mid-century furniture. Bed, wardrobes, desk, bookshelves, etc.
I'm now spending less and less time in the UK, so it’s hard to interview people continuously and so I’m looking for someone permanently for each room… right now we have two others there - Umberto (Italian) and Paula (German) and we have had a longer term Airbnb guest called Oliver who is now vacating the room come the 30th of December.
so currently the setup of the apartment is:
One double room with windows and small juliette balcony (this is the room that’s available!)
One smaller en-suite room (rented to Paula)
One large double room with a skylight (no other windows) rented to Umberto.
The price is the same for all rooms as each room has its own distinctive benefit: bathroom, windows and balcony, size. The rent includes bills - internet, tv license, water, electric, council tax, and gas. There’s nothing on top unless you all decide to get a cleaner…
I’ll be keeping the lease as I’ve furnished the whole apartment, and even though I’m not there, it's the closest thing to home that I have ever had! So I’m sentimental about the place…the things you see on the bookshelves etc are mine with the plan that I’ll return after my green card debacle ends!
So - the flat itself... it’s first floor with nothing above it. It sits above two other flats alongside a small decked communal courtyard. The flat has great gas central heating so it's cosy in winter, and tons of double-glazed warehouse style windows all the way around the living area so it's never hot in summer. It has wooden floors, tv and multiple comfy sofas. Fully equipped spacious eat-in kitchen, washing machine, etc. High speed broadband.
The decor in the flat is very mid century and it has lots of personality - it’s all my stuff which will be staying where it is, though I can make some more space!
The decking outside has just been redone and that’s a bit of a blank canvas at the moment… you are free to put outdoor furniture there, and have bbqs, smoke outside (only!), etc.
The bathroom is shared between just one other rooms, so there's never a queue. Decent water pressure (some people worry about this!),
We would prefer someone who doesn’t take over the place as a home-office in the living room area to maintain some work-life balance, but other than that, it's pretty chill. Ideally someone that has a day job, and is respectful of other people in a shared space, doesn’t bring the party home everyday, etc.
We’re looking for adults who can clean up after themselves… and do a share of the cleaning!
The flat is beautiful though, and a rare gem in hackney. Near to everything, excellent transport links (Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, all the buses you could ever need). It's behind a gate, so its secure too.
We aren’t overlooked so it feels very private… generally it’s a bit of a unicorn which is why I’ve kept hold of it for so long. There is some construction going on next door right now as they are building a new supermarket, but if you work in the day this won’t bother you.
The contract is only with me so you’d be subletting so no need for too much inane paperwork! Deposit is returned after the end of the tenancy, after move out, and 30 days notice must be given on or before the day of your last rent payment so I can advertise and not get saddled with additional rent.
