HOUSEHOLDER
A lovely lady in her 80’s lives in a spacious 2-bedroom house in Mill Hill, Barnet, London.
This lady is very fortunate to have 3 lovely daughters to take care of and check in on their mum regularly, especially now she has started suffering from memory problems/been diagnosed with mild dementia. The family is very close and supportive. Though they do spend a lot of time with mum, they do not want her living alone and feel that stimulation from a person in the home is very important for her wellbeing.
She recently had a fall and broke her hip, and although she has made a good recovery, she still requires a stick for walking and can be a bit unsteady on her feet, another reason why a homeshare lodger would be helpful.
The lady’s necessary routine consists of waking up, taking her medication, putting her hearing aids on, and eating a proper breakfast. She needs help with all these things as she will often not remember to do them unless reminded.
Her routine is quite flexible. She is sociable and has many friends who come to visit or who take her out, but on days with no plans she may stay in bed longer and take her time doing things. When at home, she now requires prompts reminding her to eat regular meals, or she will forget to eat. Food is generally prepared for her by her daughters or the occasional carer. This is a moderately kosher household (no non-kosher meat or seafood) and the homeowner, and her family would want this to remain a kosher household once the most suitable homesharer has been matched.
She has a great sense of humour and enjoys being around people and family. She likes to go out with friends and in the past hosted her U3A group meetings in her home, although she has not done so since her fall as she needs help setting them up.
She enjoys going on short walks, painting and drawing and doing puzzles, and she is very interested in different languages and current affairs.
She and her family are attracted to home sharing as they like the idea of having an extra presence in the house who is able to offer some support to their mother with the added reassurance of having an overnight presence, some companionship and someone to make sure she eats regular meals. Her daughters have noticed that the more she engages in lively conversation, the more her symptoms alleviate.
The ideal homesharer would be a female in her 30’s+, someone who will be able to
sometimes cook or prepare a lunchtime and/ or evening meal and sometimes share it with her. She used to be a passionate cook and if allowed to cook with someone else might help her to rediscover this interest.
The homesharer would need to be kind and compassionate, with a sense of humour, easy-going, patient and flexible and clean and tidy. Someone willing to look out for this lady rather than putting her own needs first, who can offer patience, companionship and a daily reassuring presence. Someone who can offer interaction in a positive way.
Would prefer the homesharer to be a non-smoker and would not consider anyone with pet/s.
