Room available Edinburgh - Homeshare Scotland

Peter, a charming, cultured, worldly and independent elderly gentleman, in his 80’s, is seeking a Homesharer to give him a mix of up to 10 hours of help and company each week in exchange for low-cost accommodation in his home.

Property
Peter has a spacious, first floor, three bedroom flat in the Succoth Court pictured above. Your private area would be your bedroom, with good separation from the master bedroom, has two single beds, a second bathroom (almost exclusively for the you).

Shared spaces would include a modestly proportioned but well appointed kitchen, a lounge and dining room which could be available for work / study. There is also a study/3rd bedroom where Peter keeps his papers etc. Facilities include Wi-Fi, a washing machine, dishwasher, and a TV and the building benefits from clean and attractive public areas, a lift and the property overlooks well maintained private gardens in this quiet cul-de-sac with parking spaces outside.

Location
The property is a 4 minute drive or 20 minute walk into Edinburgh’s west end, 25 minute walk to Haymarket train station. Bus stops are very accessible in Ravelston Dykes (2 minute walk) or Roseburn (10 minute walk) which also offers a number of cafes and restaurants and independent shops. Craigleith retail park (20 min walk) offers supermarkets, pure gym, restaurants and various other shopping outlets.

Support
Peter is looking for a friendly, quiet and independent person who has their own life and interests but would spend some time at home to offer some company and to usually be in the house overnight. He would like help with general home tidying, filing of papers and digital files, preparing and sharing the occasional meal, help with technology when needed and possibly running the occasional errand etc.

Smoking is not permitted, a small dog might be considered, dependant on it’s behaviour.

Bills
You would pay a fee of £200 per month to Homeshare Scotland, but would not pay any rent. You would also be required to pay in the region of £100 – 120 per month (tbc) towards your share of council tax, electricity, gas, and broadband. This would be paid directly to the Householder, in advance at the start of each month.

Peter is looking for someone who would like to live here for 9+ months and would prefer even longer if you were happy.

The Process
If you are selected we would usually first arrange a telephone / video call to allow you to meet each other. If that goes well, we would arrange a home visit so that you can see the property and meet each other face to face. A trial stay is sometimes arranged prior to you giving notice with your current accommodation to offer both parties re-assurance that they are happy to share together. An official move in date would then be arranged and the Homeshare Agreement could be signed.

Requirements
You would be asked to supply a copy of identification (passport or driving licence), VISA (if relevant), a Disclosure Scotland Certificate (which costs £25) and supply two references – one from someone who has known you for at least 3 years, and a second professional reference from an employer or educational facility.

Homeshare Agreement
You would be signing up to a Homeshare agreement. We will enclose a blank example agreement to give you a feel for what the agreement looks like, but this will be tailored to reflect your specific homeshare.
