Description
We have two double rooms available in this beautiful house in the middle of the Summerhill conservation area in central Newcastle that we are renting from the 15th of November 🙂
Both rooms are available from the 15th or 30th of November, unfurnished (there are a couple of spare wardrobes that could be used). The rooms are 500 each and we estimate that bills will be around 130 per person per month. We expect the bills to be on the higher end due to the bad energy rating of the house (see below).
You would be sharing this beautiful house with Isa (38), Joe (41), Bella (6) - our lovely furry cat friend - and from February on with our little baby (name TBC), we are currently 6/7 months pregnant. We occupy the roof space of the house with a separate enclosed bathroom. Isa is a lecturer and researcher in political geography and Joe works for the Quakers, a community garden project with people seeking asylum and is a musician. We have both lived in communities for the last 15 years and are looking for 2 people to join us who also value communal living, veg/vegan shared dinners and a quiet and clean space. Ideally it will become home to people who are looking to settle somewhere more long-term (preferably a 6-month minimum).
The house has wooden floors, high ceilings and big windows throughout and is located on a quiet and residential road, bus stop 1-minute walk away and the central station and city center are just 10-15 walk away.
The house spreads over three floors. The available rooms are on the first floor, next to a bathroom (see pictures). Isa and Joe occupy the second floor and roof space of the house with a separate bathroom. On the ground floor is our kitchen, living room and a separate toilet. We are only able to upload 9 images so sadly couldn't include any images of the beautiful yard, happy to provide more images via email.
Sound travels quite easily as it’s an older house, so we are looking for someone respectful of that to guarantee we can all have a good night sleep 🙂 We would love to cook and clean for each other - maybe each of us 4 could clean the community areas 1x month + cook 1x meal a week? Open to other suggestions 🙂 We order most food in bulk from SUMA Foods (ethical wholesaler) and plan to get a weekly veg box from Riverford Organics.
Please note that the two rooms are connected through a french door that can be fully closed (see pictures). We can add extra sound proofing material and put wardrobes on each site of the french door to increase sound insulation. The rooms could also suit a couple, single parent etc.
It’s a charming and cosy house with a running wood burner in the living room! Unfortunately, the energy rating isn’t great and so it might not be the warmest of all houses if you are sensitive to that. There is central heating and we are planning to use the wood burner to keep the downstairs area warm and extra cosy during the winter months.
As we are expecting a baby in February 2025, you would also share the house with a newborn - with all of its wonders and occasional (we hope) cries.. something to consider!
PS: We are thinking of splitting the bills equally (by 4) until baby arrives and then of course Joe and I will pay more to contribute for baby 🙂
If you are interested in joining us, please send us a little bit about yourself and your experience of living in houseshares.
We look forward to meeting you 🙂
