Description
Looking for a kind, respectful Lodger to share my comfortable, practical home here on the edge of the gorgeous waterfall area of Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons National Park)
Osprey Studios is a working ceramic Studio making unique sculpture and public sculpture.
We are signed up the Welsh Sustainable Business Charter so we actively work to reduce waste and pollution.
I provide eco-friendly cleaning materials that are the only products that may be used on the house.
There is ordinary non-bio laundry detergent but I am trying to find an affordable improvement- suggestions would be welcomed!
Fabric softener, plug-ins, air fresheners and sprays, disposable wipes and kitchen paper are now banned. We are saving a lot of money as a consequence! We compost every possible thing and use the compost here on the wildlife gardens.
You would have 2 rooms for your own use and share
the kitchen/livingroom/dinning area, bathroom and utility rooms.
This lovely neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful, with beautiful walks all around us.
The downstairs kitchen is big, fully equipped, with plenty of cupboards for both lodgers to have their own, an excellent rangemaster cooker and a microwave, average sized fridge and freezer .
The dining table with chairs and extra stools for guests is in the room's centre and there are 3 armchairs and a smart TV.
Out the front door there is a lovely covered porch with a table and chairs and old church pews, a washing line to drip-dry coats etc, a leafy front garden with a secluded patio, compost bins, the garbage and recycling bins and easy, reliable, off-road parking for 2 cars right in front next to my van and our Morris Minor. I look after the front garden but you would be very welcome to grow plants in pots.
The back garden is part of my Studio and not shared.
There is a fab utility room with a good washing machine, drying rails with hangers, coat and shoe rack and a dehumidifier if needed.
Up stairs there is a warm linen room with an iron and ironing board and the vacuum cleaner. All the bedding/towels you would need are here if you want to use them.
The Brecon to Swansea bus service stops here at Ynyswen and at Neath Train Station for mainline connections.
There is a local shop 3 mins walk away which is due to reopen soon with new owners.
Swansea is 18 miles and an easy drive or bus ride.
Morriston Hospital, where many of the neighbours work, is 16 miles.
Brecon is 21 miles and a stunning drive or bus ride.
Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil are now an easy drive on the improved A465.
The Gower beaches are an hour away.
Ystradgynlais (5 miles) has a great choice of shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, cinema, theatre and take-aways.
The friendly, welcoming pubs near the house do fantastic food and have lovely outdoor seating.
I am a full time sculptor. Part of my studio/living area is in the main house. (I have my own shower and toilet, kitchenette and other work areas in other parts of the property). I'm friendly, helpful and love to chat about everything and anything sometimes but most of the time I like my peace and quiet.
The house has been a popular Airbnb for years and it was great having visitors from all over the world. Now I'm enjoying the change of pace and seeing people settled in this lovely, relaxed home.
It is very important that the building is generally reasonably quiet: I use headphones for devices and expect my lodgers to do the same.
I occasionally teach or run groups here, particularly if we are building public sculpture. And clients visit to view the sculpture. So shared spaces need to be kept clean, tidy and neutral. I always let my lodgers know in advance when visitors will be in the house and I clean up afterwards.
The neighbours are great and also value peace and quiet. If you feel the same way you would feel very at home here.
Having similar schedules, especially for sleeping, and keeping the place clean and tidy is important for making a shared house work.
And it is easy here because there are no carpets and the furniture is practical as well as comfortable. I expect the lodgers to clean their own areas and keep the shared areas tidy and clean for each other. I look after my own area and always leave shared areas clean if I use them them.
Someone who gets up early and settles for sleep around 9-10pm would be a good fit.
The heating system is a new, efficient, heat-pump with solar panels and keeps the house dry and comfortable and there is lots of hot water in the large tank.
The Wi-fi is very good and reliable.
I welcome other crafts people: all the upstairs rooms have been workshops in the past!
There is a large ceramics kiln here, a small one and a glass kiln that you could have access to.
I have 4 cats and a gentle dog, all rescues. You will need to love having animals around to be happy here.
If you have pets or children we can talk through how to get that to work well for everyone.
Having other adults to stay a lot wont work I'm afraid.
No weapons of any kind may be kept on the property. If you are into hunting this home will not be suitable.
I welcome LGBT, neuro-divergent and people of all nationalities and backgrounds here. Diversity makes Communities strong.
The rent, £550 per month per person, includes all bills and council tax.(band B). I have good records of past bills and would discuss any concerns about the bills increasing.
