Description
Large Room to Rent in a Calm, Friendly Home
I’m looking for a single person or couple to share my home with — the type who enjoy a calm and peaceful house, but also don't mind the occasional chat over a cup of tea (or a good record playing in the background on occasion).
A little about me: I’m a professional, working five days a week — four days in the office and one from home. I also work both Saturdays and Sundays, so you’ll actually have the flat to yourself for most of the weekend. My life is fairly simple at the moment: work in Edinburgh, go for walks with my rescue dog Alfie (who is very much my world 🐶), and work on getting healthier and enjoying life a bit more.
Having a quiet and peaceful home really is a top priority so please no party animals.
The room
The room is large — around 25m² — and currently furnished, although I’m very happy to remove furniture if you’d prefer to make it your own.
It’s big enough for a couple and the rent mentioned in the add is based on a couple occupying the room. For a single person I am happy to adjust the rent.
I currently use the larger bedroom myself, but I’ll be moving into the smaller room, so you’ll get the big one.
There’s also a large communal living room with a dining area, and yes, I have a record player — because apparently I’ve reached the age where owning records feels like a personality trait. 😄
There’s a garden too. It’s a definite bonus if you have some energy, enthusiasm and perhaps a bit of a green thumb, because I’m afraid I’m not exactly Alan Titchmarsh (but would like to be)!
There is also on-street parking and council tax is band A - so super cheap.
Location
The location is lovely and peaceful, in a quiet residential area with great neighbours. It’s also really well connected if you work in Edinburgh.
- Uphall train station for easy connections into Edinburgh
- Express bus connections into Edinburgh, stop is ca 3 minutes walk down the road
- Close to Livingston for shopping and all the usual essentials (though Broxburn has grocery stores too)
- Linlithgow is nearby — a lovely little town with charming cafés and plenty of places to wander
- Great outdoor/walking options, including Beecraigs and Almondell & Calderwood Country Park
- Handy for heading further afield and exploring Fife and beyond
- There’s also a gym down the road that costs about half the price of Edinburgh gyms — and it's actually pretty decent, if I do say so myself! 🤣 Nearest swimming pool is Linlithgow.
Basically, it’s a great spot if you want somewhere peaceful to come home to, but still want Edinburgh within easy reach.
🐶 And then there’s Alfie…
Alfie is my sweet rescue dog and, as mentioned, very much my world. ❤️
He’s an important part of the household, so you’ll need to be at least comfortable living with a dog but ideally be a dog lover. He comes to the office with me and is the MVP. Everyone loves him (for real!) and he loves almost everyone. He can be a bit unsure about men at first but one of his most loved people is one of my colleagues - a man.
I’m looking for someone who will treat the place as a home rather than just a room, and who appreciates a clean, peaceful and respectful living environment.
One little possibility…
There’s a chance that I may decide to move next year, in which case there could potentially be an opportunity for the right person to take over the whole flat.
Nothing is decided at all, though, and I won’t be making any decisions for at least a year — so for now, this is simply a lovely room in a lovely, quiet home.
If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, well connected and homely — and you like dogs, walks, records and the occasional terrible joke — we might get along. 😊 Drop me a message.
Photo is of Alfie, happy to send flat pics privately.
